Today, Yellowknife is a thriving city and hub to the northern parts of the NWT with 33 communities, over 78 native dialects and land extending west to the Beaufort Delta sea and communities of Ulu and Tuk.

 Ulukhaktok ((Kangiryuarmiutun (Inuit): Ulukhaqtuuq, pronounced [ulukhɑqtuːq̚]) and known until 1 April 2006 as Holman or Holman Island) is a small Inuvialuit Settlement Region hamlet on the west coast of Victoria Island, in the Inuvik Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada.
 

Tuktoyaktuk (/ˌtʌktəˈjæktʌk/ TUK-tə-YAK-tuk; Inuvialuktun: Tuktuyaaqtuuq [təktujaːqtuːq], lit. 'it looks like a caribou')is an Inuvialuit hamlet near the Mackenzie River delta in the Inuvik Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada, at the northern terminus of the Inuvik–Tuktoyaktuk Highway.. One of six Inuvialuit communities in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, it is commonly known by its first syllable, Tuk (/tʌk/). It lies north of the Arctic Circle on the Arctic Ocean, and is the only place on the Arctic Ocean connected to the rest of Canada by road. Known as Port Brabant after British colonization, in 1950 it became Canada's first Indigenous settlement to reclaim its traditional name.

Winter in the Knife!

Yellowknife has Stanton hospital, an excellent resource for the 44,000 people of the NWT territory with specialized departments of oncology and vascular surgery. However, there are no detoix centres in the territory and people with addictions need to be sent South for residential treatment centres and then aftercare in NWT is very poor and needs further expansion and services to meet the needs of the people especially Indigenous persons, Inuit, Dene, in remote communities.
